Intensive Care
Know before you proceed that this post reveals plot points in Episode 412, “Old Pal!”
We arguably could have ended Season Four with Episode 411, in which Agent Caliban made a heroic sacrifice to prevent EnGAGE from launching a planetary threat into motion. But there were a number of plot threads from Season Three that we’d been addressing — many of which we covered early in the season (the fates of characters like Simon, Laila, and Caroline). So that it didn’t look too neat to resolve all outstanding business at the top of the season, we decided to reserve the biggest remaining mystery for the Season Four finale —
It had been revealed long ago that Agent Stoker’s father Eamon had died in a mysterious incident in Mexico City. And then our Season Two cliffhanger was that Eamon was still mysteriously alive, and in an ICU ward in Staten Island.
When we came back for Season Three, we learned that Eamon WAS indeed alive — but unconscious. We met Agent Stoker’s mother, Maeve — marvelously portrayed by June Angela (a name familiar to fans of THE ELECTRIC COMPANY!). A map appeared on Eamon’s skin which set Agent Stoker off on a quest that took him all over the five boroughs of New York —
But all that time, Eamon’s body was still lying there. We had established that he’d been brought back by an elder god who was using Agent Stoker in an apocalyptic plot, and we’d gotten the Night Brigade through the apocalypse they’d been fearing since our very first episode — yet we still hadn’t heard the comatose Eamon speak a single word!
In this episode, that changes. Stoker returns to Staten Island to discover that his father has in fact revived — but also that his father still carries the power of an elder god within him. We end the season with Stoker and his father wrestling with each other in an attempt to banish this evil — an attempt that careens out of control as Stoker’s recording suddenly cuts off! Who will survive to Season Five?!!
With this post, we’ll go back to quarterly posts while we produce Season Five — but we’d love to hear your thoughts on what’s about to happen next! Use the correspondence page on this website and let us know!
